Domain Authority is not a Google metric. It is a third-party prediction of ranking ability, useful for comparing two sites against each other and misleading for almost everything else.

What the scores mean

Domain Authority estimates the strength of a whole site's link profile; Page Authority estimates it for a single URL. Both are logarithmic, so moving from 20 to 30 is far easier than 60 to 70. Spam Score flags patterns common to penalised sites — it is a prompt to look closer, not a verdict.

Use these numbers comparatively. "Is this prospect stronger than that one" is a question they answer well. "Will I rank if I hit DA 50" is not.

Where authority actually comes from

Editorial links from relevant sites, earned because a page was worth citing. Nothing else moves it durably. Directory submissions, comment links and paid placements either do nothing or actively raise spam signals.

For link prospecting, weight topical relevance above the score. A DA 30 site in your exact niche is usually worth more than a DA 70 general publisher.
