DNS is where a surprising number of SEO problems actually live: a site reachable on one hostname and not another, email that never arrives, or a verification record that silently disappeared.
What each record does
A and AAAA records point a hostname at an IP address. CNAME aliases one hostname to another. MX routes email. NS delegates the zone to nameservers. TXT holds verification strings and email authentication — SPF, DKIM and DMARC all live here.
For SEO specifically, confirm that both www and non-www resolve, and that one redirects to the other rather than both serving the same content independently.
Email deliverability and outreach
If you send link-building or sales outreach, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records are not optional — without them a large share of your mail is filtered before anyone sees it. That is usually the real cause of an outreach campaign with a zero reply rate.
Remember that DNS changes propagate on the TTL, so allow for the cache before concluding a change did not work.
