SEO done right.

Use Keupera to find keywords, write content and get backlinks — autonomously.

A page that is not indexed cannot rank, no matter how good it is. Indexation is the first thing to check when a page underperforms and the last thing most people look at.

Common reasons a page is not indexed

A noindex meta tag or X-Robots-Tag header. A robots.txt rule blocking the crawler. A canonical tag pointing at a different URL. No internal links pointing to the page, so it was never discovered. Or the page is genuinely too thin or too similar to another page for Google to consider it worth storing.

Canonical mistakes are the quiet killer: a template that canonicalises every page to the homepage will silently remove an entire site section from the index.

Getting a page indexed

Make sure it is in your sitemap, linked from at least one page that is already indexed, and not blocked or canonicalised elsewhere. Then request indexing in Search Console. Discovery usually follows within days once the page is genuinely reachable.

If a page is crawled but not indexed, the problem is value, not access. Crawlers found it and decided against it — which means the fix is the content, not the configuration.

Frequently Asked Questions

If your page is not indexed, it won't appear in Google search results. This could be due to technical issues (noindex tags, robots.txt blocks), content quality problems, or simply because Google hasn't discovered and crawled the page yet.

This free tool analyzes technical indexability factors like HTTP status, meta robots tags, and X-Robots-Tag headers to estimate if your page is likely indexed. For real-time index status directly from Google, upgrade to Keupera Pro which uses the Google Search Console API.

A noindex tag is a directive in your page's HTML (<meta name='robots' content='noindex'>) or HTTP headers that tells search engines not to index the page. It's useful for duplicate content, admin pages, or content you don't want in search results.

It varies. New pages on established sites may be indexed within hours or days. New sites or less authoritative pages can take weeks. You can speed this up by submitting your sitemap to Google Search Console and building internal links to the page.
